Introducing the recently launched Global Academies from Cardiff Met
Global Academies is a newly launched strategic research initiative within Cardiff Met, in recognition of the increasing importance of interdisciplinary research. The initiative is split into three Academies: ‘Health and Human Performance’, ‘Food Science, Safety and Security’ and ‘Human Centred Design’.
Our very own Professor Andrew Walters, Director of Research at PDR, is instrumental in the new initiative - we’d like to congratulate him on his new additional role as Head of Global Academies for Human Centred Design.
The Global Academies were officially (and virtually) launched on the 1st December 2020, where the President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Cara Aitchison, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Sheldon Hanton, Director of Global Academies, Leila Gouran and other high-profile academics from across Cardiff Met addressed an audience of key stakeholders.
The initiative is all about various experts coming together in order to address real world problems with design, be it poverty, sustainability, economic growth, healthy ageing or others.
Andrew’s new role within the initiative will concentrate his focus on problem solving and helping others within the university develop their interdisciplinary research expertise.
Some of this work will include running workshops and cross-school programs, and working with individual research groups to help them identify particular calls and grants they can apply for. A future aim is to work across educational institutions, partnering up with the best possible people - wherever they may be.
Congratulations to Andy on his new role and this important collaborative initiative - a new and exciting venture in interdisciplinary research that we’re incredibly pleased to support.
